I read a great article (http://www.stsc.hill.af.mil/CrossTalk/2007/04/0704Turner.html)
about adopting agile practices to large systems engineering projects. I think this is a great read because we often work on large deployments where agile seems like a long shot.

I've also done a blog post on the article, summarzing his key points here: http://requirements.seilevel.com/blog/2008/06/incose-2008-can-you-build-airplane-with.html

I like Turner's comment, "agility is much more a state of mind or philosophical approach than a set of rules that have to be followed regardless of appropriateness," and Joy's reply, "I can see some definite opportunities for improvements for the field".

What I really like about Agile is a lot like what I liked about the RUP -- it's an approach, not a firm set of rules that have to be followed to the letter. But, much like people did with the RUP, people think the Agile Manifesto is gospel (or worse yet, they think that their misunderstood version of what's in the Manifesto is gospel).

Hopefully more folks can and will adopt the appropriateness yardstick!

what I liked about the RUP

I like the use of past tense here "liked" :)
